The show follow s the inv estigations of a team of NYPD forensic scie ntists and  police off icers ident  ified as " Crime Scene Inve stigators" (instead of the actual  title of &q  uot;Cri me Scene U nit For ensic Techni cians" (CSU)) as they u nveil the circumst ances behi nd mysterious and unusual deat hs,  as well as o ther crimes. The se ries  is an indirect s pin-off from the  veter an series CSI: Crime Sc ene Investiga tion and a direct spi  n-off from CSI: Miami, dur ing an  episode   in which  several of the CSI: NY characters made their first appea rances.
